02Why Prices Differ
Area
Central District 1 and hotel areas tend to charge more for the same type of session.
Duration and course
Prices depend on whether the session is 60, 90 or 110 minutes and whether it includes extras such as a scrub.
Facilities
Private rooms, private showers and higher cleanliness standards usually mean higher prices.
Language support
Venues where you can book and communicate in English, Korean or Chinese are easier to use but usually cost more than local shops.
03Tipping for Massage in Vietnam
Tipping your therapist is common at local massage shops in Vietnam. Many visitors tip around 50,000–100,000 VND, but the norm differs between venues.
- Is the tip included? — Ask whether the listed price includes a tip when you book.
- Fixed tips — Some venues set a fixed tip amount. Knowing it in advance avoids surprises.
- Excessive requests — If you are asked for a large amount you were not told about, check with the front desk before paying.
04Checklist to Avoid Overcharging
- Confirm the price first — Check the duration, price and what is included before the session starts. Venues that publish prices are safer.
- Extra charges — Ask about extra charges for oil upgrades, extensions or service fees.
- Check your banknotes — The 20,000 VND and 500,000 VND notes are both bluish and easy to confuse. Count the zeros when paying.
- Street touts — Choose venues with a published address, prices and contact details rather than those found through street touts.
- Valuables — Keep your phone and wallet in a locker or within sight.
05Money Exchange & Payment Tips
- Carry some cash — Many local shops accept cash only, so keep some Vietnamese dong (VND) with you.
- Compare rates — Exchange rates differ between counters, so compare the displayed rate before exchanging.
- Cards and transfers — Card and bank transfer acceptance varies, so ask in advance.
